Before Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, He spoke the following words to His disciples;
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 2818-20 )
In these words lie every bit of encouragement and motivation which every believer in Christ Jesus needs to be successful on earth like Jesus was. Jesus foresaw that the Church, His Body on earth would need all the encouragement in the world to carry on His work and legacy, so He declared, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age”.
Emmanuel, meaning, “God with us”. He is with us in 3 ways.
- He is with us in His name:
His name is Yeshua, God is salvation. He came to save us from our sins, to demonstrate the love of God the Father to a sin sick world. He came to dwell among us, even as it is written,
“10 He was in the world, and the world was created through Him, yet the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. 12 Yet to all who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God, to those who believed in His name, 13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
He is not only with us in His name,
- 2. He is with us in His Word. For He is the eternal Word of God, the living Word. As it is written,
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were created through Him, and without Him nothing was created that was created. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. 5 The light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.”
Everything the living Word achieved during His earthly ministry the written word can achieve today. Because He is alive for evermore. Even as it is written,
“12 For the word of God is alive, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 There is no creature that is not revealed in His sight, for all things are bare and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
He is the anointed Word, of whom it is written,
“36 The word which He sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all, 37 the word, which you know, that was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
He is the sent Word, the Word that brings healing to the sick, deliverance to the oppressed, good news to the poor and liberty to the captives.
3. He is not only with us in His name and in His Word,
- He is also with us by His Spirit. His Spirit, the Holy Spirit has come to dwell in us. He is the Promise of the Father celebrated down the Old Testament era in the feast of Pentecost, who was bestowed upon the Church in reality on the Day of Pentecost. He is the Spirit of the Son of God. For Jesus Himself said,
“7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 When He comes, He will … guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own authority. But He will speak whatever He hears, and He will tell you things that are to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will receive from Me and will declare it to you.” So, go on into this day knowing Jesus is with you always.
